My first time.....
....In the Infy bus....on the elevated highway
After another day of drudgery, I decided to call it a day and hopped into the 7:15pm bus. I was only the second person in the bus. Thought I came in a bit early, but then there was nothing else to do. The PA went off...the man behind the mike said "All buses other than the so and so bus will use the Elevated Highway for today and tomorrow on trial buses". Wow! Now this could just be something that'd make the day worthwhile. I started glancing at the time every 10-15 seconds...the wait seemed endless...7:08, 7:08:30, 7:09, 7:11......man, c'mon is it 7:15 already? Nope it's 7:14....now? 7:14:45....noooooow? OK fine, time for buses to leave the bus bay...they start taking a left turn instead of a right as usual....man, this is exciting...they move towards the toll collection point of the flyover...many people in the bus are wondering why the bus took a left (they obviously didn't hear the PA announcement clearly)...now they sit up and start noticing this change in route.....the bus in the meanwhile starts inching towards the flyover....few more sleepy heads wake up and take notice.....the bus finally hits the fully lit flyover....there are 826 lights on this jewel of a road FYI.....by this time, the entire janata has taken notice...they're peeping outside the window and are excited...i'm trying to maintain a little decorum, but the little guy inside me (not that other little guy, silly) is excited as can be.....in my thoughts, i'm as proud as can be, for people have taken notice of the great work that's before them...it's as though I've created it...I'm pumping my fist in the air, jumpin with joy and whatnot......we're in my thoughts remember? that's why all the jumping...we start cruising on the elevated highway....all the buses are on the right lane and cars/two wheelers on the left....suddenly its like being in some other country...an endless line of lights, pothole and traffic free road...man that felt good...people were watching with awe....each one probably jumping with joy. We crossed the Hosa road junction, Kudlu gate junction, Bommanahalli junction with much ease...there was no waiting at any of these since we were flying over them :) and then it happened....we started to slow down....and then came to a screetching halt...and I thought to myself..."which idiot's vehicle had to break down in our lane today?"...we're inching along....the traffic in the next lane seems to be zipping along....why cant we jump lanes?...no that wouldn't be fair...but i'm thinking "one day we'll zip and you'll stick" and then we see a fire department's jeep on the opposite lane...they're attending to someone...what happened? We all get up from our seats to check...there's been an accident...a biker's down and someone's weeping next to him...cant see more than that....the traffic eases out and we start cruising again...reach the end of it and there's no traffic at the merger of the road underneath with the one over. 12 minutes wasn't that bad to cover the stretch of road that took nearly 45 minutes to cover earlier i thought....it's another story that it took 30 minutes from Silk Board to 4th block.
Back at work today, reading some mails on the BB and there's some clarity on the accident....some helmetless biker trying to go zig zag was brushed by an Indigo...the Indigo too went and rammed into the divider....dont know what happened to the biker.
Pretty interesting first time that :)

Awake
Not sure how many know of this series called MASH that used to air on television over a decade ago. Its my all time fave series. I have a few seasons on DVD and watch it almost everyday. Every dialogue is now etched in my brain.
I have this dream sequence in which I'm alongside Klinger, Father Mulchahy and Radar. They're discussing something and about to go to sleep. I can almost feel the guilt that Klinger is going through. He's the sentry and he feels like he must be guarding the camp lest something should happen. He's been contemplating over what he should be doing when he hears the door to their tent open.
Just about then I can hear the door to my bedroom being pushed open slowly. I'm petrified. I dont know whether I should swiftly move towards the door or pretend to be asleep. I'm petrified. I'm immobile. I dont see a way to defend myself.
Just about then, my wits start functioning again and I realize that its only 7:30pm and that could only be my wife trying to check if I'm still asleep. I'm relieved. There's sweat on my forehead by now. I wait for my wife to switch on the lights.
It's been 10 minutes now and the lights are not yet turned on. I call out to my wife. No reply.
I get out of the bed. I go out into the hall. It's pitch dark. I switch on the light. I read the messages on my phone. My wife messaged in saying she'd only come when I was up and would call her.
For a few minutes, I didn't know where my dream sequence ended. I could still feel my heart pounding like crazy.
